The Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology is pleased to announce the release of the 2010-2011 Request for Pre-Proposals. The deadline for submission of the pre-proposals is Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.
The Center is committed to funding research projects that support the Center's mission to promote economically viable and environmentally sound agriculture and forestry in Maryland. During 2009, the Center was involved in developing a Forest Strategic Plan for Maryland. The report provides a series of strategies and recommendations to strengthen the economic and environmental future of the private and public forests in Maryland. The Center was also engaged in the recent Maryland Ag Summit which provided the framework for charting the course of Maryland agriculture for the next fifteen years. Individuals interested in submitting a pre-proposal are encouraged to visit the Center's website to obtain additional information about both strategic plans.
This year, the Center is seeking pre-proposals for research projects providing new information relating to Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). Of particular interest are projects that include assessments as to how to keep agriculture and forestry sustainable while also meeting the TMDL limits. The Center is also interested in projects that will provide needed information to determine the best management models for TMDLs for septic systems and wastewater treatment centers.
Subject to funding availability the Center anticipates supporting one to two year duration projects. Previously funded projects have ranged from $30,000 to $200,000. If interested, please click here to obtain the Full Request for Pre-Proposals and the required budget format.
